Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

DIY Body Scrub

Did you check out my DIY face scrub and DIY foot scrub?

I was on a bit of a kick at this stage, and loved how soft my feet felt, so I decided to try something a little different for my body scrub.

I used The Body Shop's Moringa Beautifying Oil because I love the scent and texture, but I think any body oil would do. Dry oils will probably be best if you plan on getting dressed right after your shower though.

Here are the proportions you'll need for a gritty scrub that leaves you smooth and lightly moisturised:

  • 2 tablespoons body oil
  • 4 tablespoons rice flour

Mix well and you're done. If you're just doing your legs, then it's easy enough to do on dry skin and just rub off (although I recommend doing that outside or in a shower/bathtub), but if you're starting with wet skin or doing an all-over scrub, you'll definitely want to rinse it off afterwards, just to get rid of the tiny particles from any nooks or crannies - elbows and finger webbing come to mind here. Because it's such a lovely scent and leaves just the right amount of oil behind, I like to shower fully first, then do a scrub and rinse just before I get out. That way, I'm not washing off the body oil and I'm left invigorated from the scrub, moisturised and ready to tackle the day.

If you have really dry skin, you might want to use more oil and leave it to soak in before rinsing off. Use the time to brush your teeth, shape your eyebrows, file your nails or whatever bathroom routine fits your fancy!

What's your favourite body oil? Or have you tried this technique with something else? (I'd love to know how it works with body butter, but I have a feeling it would just be a big old mess!) Feel free to share your questions or experiences in the comments :)
